The Most Impressive Dragon in the MFA

Commemorate the 55th Anniversary of the Kyoto-Boston sister city relationship and immerse yourself in the 35-foot wide, five-foot tall swirl of Dragon and Clouds by the eccentric 18th-century Kyoto artist Soga Shōhaku. Join the curator and a conservator of this extraordinary set of sliding-door paintings, re-installed at the MFA in March after a hugely popular tour of Japan, for a discussion about the artist, the MFA’s unparalleled collection of his works, the role of dragons in Japanese culture and details of the two-year conservation process.

Phillip Meredith, Higashiyama Kaii Conservator of Japanese Paintings, Asian Conservation

Anne Nishimura Morse, William and Helen Pounds Senior Curator of Japanese Art
