About the Event:

Hashi is the Japanese word for chopsticks, an essential Japanese culinary utensil. Let's make our own with experts from Japan!

We are pleased to be able to offer a special 90 minute chopstick-making workshop led by Mr. Yasunari Uenaka, the 3rd generation CEO of Hashitou, a famous chopstick company located in Tokyo’s well-known kitchenware district, Kappabashi. He will be assisted by Mr. Mamoru Kaiho, who will make a short presentation on the history of these daily-used utensils. Each participant will have their own materials and tools to create a bespoke pair of chopsticks.

Don't miss this opportunity to make your very own pair of chopsticks using traditional Japanese methods taught by experts from Japan. Limited space available.

This class is open to ages 13 and up. Those under 18 must register with a participating adult. We will be working with wood hand planers and other tools so please be aware of any risk. By registering you are acknowledging full responsibility for any personal injury.

About the Instructor:

Hashitou is a well known chopsticks company in Japan, having been founded in 1910. Their chopsticks are made from a variety of natural wood such as cedar, cypress, and cherry blossom which are grown in the beautiful forests around Japan. Their Urushi lacquered chopsticks are carefully crafted by local artisans who are dedicated to preserving traditional Japanese handicrafts in different regions. If you decide to buy a luxury pair, they will come with a beautiful wooden box, which can make for a perfect gift. They also have disposable chopsticks, chopstick rests, chopstick bags and beautiful paper placemats that can be a perfect addition to your dining table at home!
