JSB Member Kintsugi Workshop
Thursday, June 27, 2024
2:00 PM EDT
(In Person)
Boston Children's Museum
308 Congress St, Boston, MA 02210
About the Event:
JSB members are invited to join us at Boston Children's Museum for a fun workshop about the art of kintsugi, a traditional Japanese method of repairing ceramics by highlighting the lines of breakage with precious metals.
Tatsuya Murao, kintsugi artist, will give a brief presentation explaining the background of kintsugi. Then we will be able to apply those concepts by creating our own small accessories joining recycled materials into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. We will be using ceramic paints and glue instead of real lacquer in this workshop as there would not be enough curing time.
Afterwards, join us on a tour of the traditional Japanese merchant townhouse at Boston Children's Museum, Kyo no Machiya, and the window display of real kintsugi works.
Spaces are limited. JSB members are welcome to bring a plus one to this event. If you are not a JSB member, you can sign up here.
*Please note that online only members can attend the online member only events but not the in person member events.
