QED, a Cleveland-based manufacturer of high-tech medical imaging devices, is a remarkable success story in US-Japan collaborative research and manufacturing.  Founded in 2006, the company has annually ranked high Forbes Magazine’s listing of “America’s Most Promising  Companies.”  Earlier this year, its founder and President, Dr. Hiroyuki Fujita, was recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration as an innovation leader and was honored by a White House invitation to join First Lady Michelle Obama in her Congressional box at President Obama’s State of the Union address on January 24, 2012.

In less than six years, QED has become one of America’s fastest growing medical technology manufacturers specializing in a technology known as Ultra High Field MRI, applied to devices for human body imaging.  During its very first year, QED won major contracts from Toshiba and Siemens, and it has been on an aggressive growth curve ever since.  In his company’s short history, Dr. Fujita had developed important collaborative research projects with medical centers and universities around the world, including the Cleveland Clinic, the National Institutes of Health, Kyoto University, the German Cancer Institute, the Medical University of Vienna, University Hospital of Freiburg, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, New York University Medical Center and his alma mater, Case Western Reserve.

Dr. Hiroyuki Fujita was born in Osaka and educated at Waseda University (Tokyo), the University of California at San Diego, Monmouth College, and Case Western Reserve University. While still an undergraduate, he did research in solid-state physics at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
