* If the Beginner 2 class on Monday is full, we will open another session on Tuesdays.

** The Advanced Japanese Fiction is a language class, not a book club in Japanese. Vocabulary and expressions are reviewed in addition to discussion.

  • Beginner 1 through Advanced Beginner 1 classes will use "TOBIRA BEGINNING JAPANESE" volume 1.  Please purchase your book here.  

  • Intermediate 1 and 2 will use "TOBIRA BEGINNING JAPANESE" volume 2.  Please purchase your book here

  • For the Advanced 1 -4  classes, please purchase the "Tobira Gateway to Advanced Japanese" textbook here.  

  • 小説を読もう!Advanced Japanese Fiction is an advanced class for N1 and N2 level students and involves reading the novel in Japanese over the semester. All reading and discussions will be in Japanese. This semester we will be reading There's No Such Thing as an Easy Job /「この世にたやすい仕事はない」by 津村記久子 (Kikuko Tsumura). For those in the Boston area, you can find a copy at Brookline Booksmith. Policies:

1. Tuition 

- Tuition is payable by credit card on the registration website.

- Tuition is non-refundable for any reason after classes begin.  

- You are welcome to try out different levels during the first two weeks for free.

- To receive the membership tuition rate, students must be members at the time of registration. Please note that JSB membership fees paid at the time of registration are non-refundable. 

2. Class

- Class size is minimum 4 students and maximum 8 students.

- Classes cancelled due to inclement weather and other emergency situations will be rescheduled after the 10-week session.

- Students must be at least 16 years old to be able to attend group classes. If you are younger than 16, we may be able to offer you private lessons.

- Student contact information will be shared with our instructors for teaching and emergency purposes.  

- Please contact language@japansocietyboston.org if you experience any technical difficulties with Zoom.

- The language school and its instructors will not record the lessons on Zoom.
