featuring Elizabeth Reian Bennett, shakuhachi; Ayakano Cathleen Read, koto; and Elizabeth Anker, contralto

Distler Performance Hall, Granoff Music Center

Tufts University Medford/Somerville Campus

As is common in Japan, this concert will maintain a seasonal focus, including a 19th century “Song of Autumn” for shakuhachi and koto, and a koto solo entitled “The Silence of Autumn”. The concert will also include the premiere of new works by Tufts composers John McDonald and David Molk. McDonald's piece will be set to the words of Vermont poet David Budbill, who models his poems in the brief style of Tang Dynasty China, in a collection of four poems which describe each season.  The piece will be sung by Ms. Anker. The evening will close with two monk solos entitled “Meditation on Reeds” and “The Song of the V Geese”.
