Please join us as we welcome Peter Grilli (Co-Producer and President Emeritus of the Japan Society of Boston) and Barry Frechette (Director) for a screening of "PAPER LANTERNS".

"PAPER LANTERNS" tells the little-known story of the twelve American POWs who were killed by the atomic bomb at Hiroshima in August 1945. It is also the story of Mr. Shigeaki Mori, himself an A-bomb victim (at the age of 8), an extraordinary peace activist who has devoted most of his life to insuring that the American POWs will not be lost to historical obscurity. For four decades, Mori has done research on the POWs and has contacted their families all over America. For these efforts, Mr. Mori was personally thanked and embraced by President Obama in May 2016, immediately following the President's historic speech in Hiroshima. The photo of their embrace was headline news all over the world, and it has become an iconic image of U.S.-Japan reconciliation and amity.

"Paper Lanterns" has been shown with great success at international film festivals, universities, and various other venues in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. It has also been shown multiple times at the United Nations, which has adopted it for special screenings at international conferences focused on peace and nuclear disarmament. To learn more, please visit the Paper Lantern Project website.
