Film - The Ito Sisters - Followed by Discussion

Friday, March 1, 2019 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm

Tufts Alumnae Lounge, 40 Talbot Ave,
Somerville, MA 02155

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Antonia Grace Glenn, the filmmaker, and her mother Evelyn Nakano Glenn, Professor of the Graduate School of Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies at UC Berkeley. The panel will be moderated by Elene Tajima Creef, Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Wellesley. The Ito Sisters was first seen in Boston at the 2018 Boston Asian American Film Festival. It focuses on the experiences of Issei and Nisei women whose voices have largely been excluded from American history. The filmmaker explores her family’s history as Japanese American farm laborers struggling to eke out a living in the midst of a powerful anti-Japanese movement in the early 20th Century. Featured in the film are interviews with Evelyn Glenn. Admission is free and open to the public. Dinner will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Tufts Japanese Culture Club.
