Wed, November 14, 2018 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

McMullen Museum of Art 2101 Commonwealth Ave.

McMullen Museum Assistant Director, Diana Larsen, will present a lecture on the history and restoration of the original BC eagle sculpture. The golden eagle is a copy of a bronze masterpiece made in Japan around 1890. Diana Larsen will present the storied past of this iconic eagle from its original purchase in Japan to its recent rediscovery and restoration. Next year, the eagle will return to Boston College, where it will be featured in an exhibition exploring its artistic significance, history, and conservation - Eaglemania: Collecting Japanese Art in Gilded Age America. The exhibit opens on February 11, 2019. This lecture is free and open to BC Alumni and McMullen Museum members only. Register online here.
