Join the Boston Architectural College for the opening reception of Obento and Built Space: Japanese Boxed Lunch and Architecture, McCormick Gallery’s current exhibition examining the material and social culture of bento boxes and how they inspire architects and designers to think about the potential of emptiness, craft, portability, and sustainability.

We invite you to come to the Gallery this Friday, March 13, to learn more about the exhibition and enjoy refreshments and demonstrations. Whether you are a skilled or novice bento maker, this is a great opportunity to get to know the exhibition and grow more familiar with the bento, the perfect portable meal that is becoming popular worldwide. 

From the fun “character” bentos, where food is formed into animals, flowers, beloved manga or anime characters, to the exquisite kaiseki samplers of small bites, to the comforting fare prepared daily for work or school – the same principles are applied: nutrition, deliciousness, aesthetic balance, and proportion. We are also inviting anyone who is interested to please make and bring their own homemade bento, for display only at the event.

This gallery opening reception will bring the BAC community together with local chefs and designers. We hope to see you there!
